FuzziBunz Vs. BumGenius3.0

Last week I ordered my first two cloth diapers. One is a FuzziBunz pocket diaper and the other is a BumGenius 3.0 pocket diaper. They are very similar in their design and functionality. The major differences are that FB has snaps and BG has velcro (although they do have a slightly more expensive diaper with snaps) and that the pocket opening in the back of the FB is open, while the BG has an overlay over the pocket opening. You kind of have to see it to understand it... which is why I went ahead and bought one of each. Also the BG is one size fits all and the FB is the perfect fit size where we'll have a stash of Small and Mediums (most kids are potty trained before they need large.) The FB comes in a one size fits all, but my understanding is they are on the bulky side.

In doing my initial evaluation, there was not one that stood out over the other. So when Nathan came home... I gave Nathan the basic understanding of the diaper then asked which one he preferred at this point. Initially, we both thought the FB. But as we talked through it, we have kind of started leaning towards the BG.

Let me also say, that both FB and BG have excellent reviews. Cloth diapering families who use BG love them, and cloth diapering families who use FB love them. So I think we'd be happy either way.

The BG definitely seems to provide a better fit for a little one. The small FB is still fairly large, where the BG, being adjustable starts smaller. And it has velcro the whole way around the waist. You are not limited at all to the positions of the snaps. Just like a disposable, you can adjust the waist to a perfect fit. And to protect the velcro, the BG has laundry tabs to attach the vecro tabs to while washing. And if something were to happen to the velcro, say it wears out over time... that's an easier fix than trying to fix a snap, if that is even possible. But then again... the snaps will be nice for a toddler because they would make it more difficult for the baby to remove the diaper themselves if they so choose.

So here is what we decided. If we did the FB, we'd have to have a stash of small and medium to get us through the diapering years. That would be between 25-30 diapers. If we did the BG, we'd have to have a stash of 15 one size diapers. So... I think we will initially go with the BumGenius3.0. Then, as Baby M enters toddlerhood reevaluate. And if at that point we want to go ahead and get some additional FB, then we are still not buying any more diapers than we would using FB from the beginning. Does that make sense?

Oh but one thing I noticed is that I really like the FB insert (that goes into the pocket for absorbency.) So we will also likely get a stash of FB inserts to use as well.

Now... I'm still planning on washing both diapers up to do a laundry based evaluation. And I'm thinking I might ask Linda if I can test one out with Anya!! I want to make sure that they perform equally in terms of keeping moisture off of baby's skin. But based on the many, many reviews I've read... they both seem to do their job and do it well.
